Rules

Game Rules

1) This is Hogwarts, 1976. We're keeping it canon.
This isn't Vegas. This isn't 2009. It's a school, and it's 1976. No drugs, no boys in girls rooms, no girls in boys rooms, no students in other house's commons. Not saying no to sex - horny teenagers are notoriously creative - but no boys are sneaking up into the girls rooms at all hours, okay?

2) Journals are linked via magic and can be used to communicate within the school.
Please, no student to student owls. Your character was given a journal that is tied into all the other student's journals. Like online blogs, entries can be charmed to be private or only visible to some students. Hacking is permissible with player consent.

3) This is a real-time game - sort of.
We're corresponding the game to the calendar. January first, 2009 will be September first, 1976. While some backdating is permissible, within reason, try to run threads as current as you can. For convenience's sake, full moons will correspond to real-life full moons.

4) OCs are allowed if you have successfully maintained a canon for two weeks.
With so many characters that are just (sur)names, we really don't feel there's an absolute need to app in OCs right off - borrow a canon first.

5) Three character limit to start.
So you think you can handle ten characters. Cool. Start slow though; maybe this game isn't a great fit for you - it'd be a shame to have to write out ten characters. Once you've decided you like it here & will be sticking around for the foreseeable future, you're welcome to app in a couple more pups. Limit determined on a player by player basis.

6) Announce hiatuses.
Obviously, we can't account for everything that will happen, but if you know for sure you won't be around for an extended period (more than a couple of days), drop the mods a line or post a notice in the OOC comm. You don't have to say why; just give us a heads up that you're not around.

7) Use common sense.
I know, common sense is not so common. When in doubt, ask a mod or the player your actions may affect.

Posting Guidelines

1) Format:

Title
Please give every post a title. The preferred format is:
[ date ] - [ post title/description ]

Example:
September 2, 1976 - Lily Takes a Walk

Header
Who: Character(s) involved
Where: give us a location - library, [house] commons, courtyard, 3Bs, Ministry, etc
When: Morning? Noon? Night? Date?
Rating: Please guesstimate the rating on this; include any warnings you feel are necessary
Invasion: Open to anyone to come play? Closed to certain characters? Let us know. Please note, any post labeled as open that remains labeled as open even after someone replies, will be considered open for future invasion.

Status: Closed, completed, open, ongoing, dead, abandoned, etc. Let us know where it stands.
Summary: When the thread is done, a 2-7 line summary of events would be appreciated; longer threads merit longer summaries.

2) Labels and tags.
Each post should be labeled with applicable warnings, and should be tagged to reflect the characters involved, the location, and while in progress, who's playing.

Etiquette Rules

1) Communication is key.
We have AIMs or Y!Ms or e-mail. It's polite to ping, ding, or drop a line to plot. Questions? We have answers. Issues? We have solutions. We can't fix what we don't know is broken - don't be afraid to speak up and point things out to us!

2) Track it.
Track the comms, track threads, track journals. Not everyone pokes over dropped tags - and we shouldn't have to. It's your responsibility to keep current on threads you're in.

3) This is not your sandbox - you just play in it.
If you don't like the way we do things here, we'd appreciate constructive criticism on a sticky point. Every mod does it differently; this is what works for us. If you still don't like how things are done here, we appreciate quiet resignations and not 'u suxx0rz, i'm leaving' flounces. But hey, to each their own.

4) Bob's character is not your character (i.e., no god moding).
You applied for and are playing character X. Bob's playing character Y. While minor liberties may be taken in certain circumstances, with Bob's consent, under no circumstances should you take control of Y in this game. That is god moding, which often results in drama and severe butthurt. We're anti-drama on the player side.

5) Please keep the OOC out of the RP comm.
Players have their own comm: [info]muddled_ooc. This is for us. For plotting, for intros, for hiatuses, etc.
